If you’re like me, there have been sleepless nights and tough decisions that stick with you forever, moments when you wonder how to balance
it all, build a business, and still have time for family.
For me, the journey started as a teenager, working in my dad’s painting business. I knew from early on that I didn’t want to follow the exact same path, not because I didn’t respect the hard work, but because I saw firsthand how exhausting it was to run a business, provide for a family, and still have something left in the tank at the end of the day.
My dad, Petros, immigrated to Australia in 1968, barely speaking English but determined to succeed. He built a painting business from scratch with grit, honesty, and good old-fashioned hard work, values that I know every tradie can relate to.
Despite a degree in Construction Management - I couldn’t shake the entrepreneurial bug. I wanted more than just a career. I wanted control over my life. I had a clear picture of the kind of house I wanted, the lifestyle, and how I wanted to raise my kids. So, in 1996, I fought my way into the family business, starting at the bottom with a paintbrush in hand.
By 2004, after years of 12-hour days, seven days a week, the business had doubled
But as you already know, I realised what the business earned and what I took home were two very different things. The turning point came in 2008 when my daughter Stella was born 3 ½ months premature. At that moment, I had to choose: keep grinding away or build a business that served my family, instead of the other way around.
That was my Snap Point. I decided that my business had to work without me constantly being there. I didn’t want to burn out and drag my family down with me. From that point on, I committed to building a business that gave me back my time, while still growing and thriving.
The Integrated Tradie™
This led to my philosophy, The Integrated Tradie™. It’s all about integration, building a business that doesn’t just make money but also supports the life you want. Too many tradies are stuck on the tools, burning out, and missing out on their families. My goal is to help trade business owners achieve financial freedom and reclaim their time.
At the heart of The Integrated Tradie™ is the idea that leadership starts with self-leadership. You can’t lead anyone if you can’t lead yourself. That’s why I focus on helping business owners align their personal and business goals, so their work supports their life, instead of consuming it.
It took me over 10 years to figure out how to make my business run with minimal input from me. Today, I spend less than a day a week in my
trade business - always on a Monday. The rest of my time is focused on helping other tradies build businesses that give them the same
freedom, whether that’s more time with family, better financial security, or just not being stuck on the tools all the time.
I believe the driving force in building a business is the pursuit of freedom.
True freedom is downstream of financial freedom.
